Police are investigating a suspected racially-aggravated assault on a bus driver in Watford.

At 9pm on Monday 29 November, a bus driver was reportedly assaulted by a man who attempted to steal a pot of change and used racially offensive language on a bus stopped at Garston Park shopping parade.

The incident took place on the bus and also on the street, but the victim did not sustain any injuries.

A 32-year-old man from Abbots Langley was arrested on suspicion of assault, theft and public order. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Adam Bates, from Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: “I’m looking to hear from anyone who has information about this incident to get in contact with me.

“I believe that members of the public assisted the victim and that the incident was witnessed by numerous others.

“If you were one of these people, and have not already spoken with us, I believe you could be able to assist in the investigation."
