Work is set to finally start on Aylesbury big new Sainsbury's this week.

The supermarket's confirmed work will begin at the Gatehouse Road site, with the store and petrol station set to open next year.

The retailer is investing millions of pounds in a new 50,000 sq ft supermarket on the site which has set empty opposite The Gateway for many years.

The store is expected to support hundreds of jobs during construction and when the store opens to customers.

The store will include Sainsbury's food alongside non-food products including the Tu clothing range.

The store will also include a restaurant and there will be a large car park. The petrol station will also have six pumps.

From today, Sainsbury's contractors RG Group will commence preparatory works on site including vegetation clearing.

Sainsbury's is committed to keeping the local community, especially nearby residents, informed during the construction phrase.

Sainsbury's is strictly adhering to Government advice in relation to COVID-19.

All on-site work will be undertaken by its contractors in accordance with the Government's guidelines.

Sainsbury's and its contractors will keep working practices under continuous review to ensure they align with the most up to date guidance.
