A Berkshire football club has applied to build a new 50 seat grandstand with a turnstile following a recent promotion.

Ascot United Football Club wants to put up the new grandstand and entry point at its Winkfield Road ground.

The application forms note the site is used as a community football ground by local children – as well as being the main pitch for the adults’ teams.

A covering letter written on the club’s behalf reads: “I found your pre-application advice encouraging but I am very nervous of timelines.

“The temporary structures we need to install are at the behest of the Football Association and relate to the men’s team now playing at a higher standard which has additional requirements in terms of facilities. “

“The details are with the application. My timing concern is that the FA stipulate that the work needs to be completed by 31 March 2024 otherwise the club will be in recent of several penalties.”

Ascot United, which is believed to have around 1,000 members, recently saw success when their men’s team won promotion to go from Step 5 football to playing Step 4 football.

The structures proposed in the planning application are said to be ‘temporary in nature’, allowing them to be moved around or removed from the site.

The application form claims that the proposed works are “required” for the club to play Step 4 football.

No change of use is proposed as part of the planning application.

The covering letter adds: “The process to get this far has been arduous but I do hope that with the supportive preapplication document it will be possible for permission to be granted in time to allow us to start the works and have everything ready for the end of March.”
