Basingstoke residents asked to join campaign against fly-tipping
Campaign calls for help from the community to catch fly-tippers

Communities blighted by fly-tipping will be the focus of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's latest antisocial behaviour campaign.
The campaign will run until Friday 29 April 2022 with the message ‘Let’s tackle this together’, urging communities to work with the council to address fly-tipping hotspots in their area.
The council’s community safety patrol officers will be talking to residents and businesses about known problem areas, arrange for the removal of the rubbish and look at potential ways to reconfigure the areas to deter further offences.
Throughout the campaign, the team will also carry out patrols around the borough to encourage residents to become more connected with their local area and report fly-tipping incidents or provide information which might help the council to prosecute offenders.
Acting Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Cllr Simon Bound said:
“We know that reducing fly-tipping and keeping our borough and streets clean and clear is a priority for our residents as demonstrated by the last residents' survey.
“Fly-tipping is an eyesore, it's harmful to the environment, it can be dangerous to anyone who comes in to contact with it and it is expensive to clean up. It is also unpleasant for people living nearby. The council is committed to tackling this problem but we can’t do it alone. We need our communities to help us and our team will be out talking to people and finding ways to work together, aiming to improve the landscape of the borough significantly.”
Since May 2018 Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s has convicted 39 individuals and companies for fly-tipping and related waste offences and will always prosecute where there is enough evidence to do so.
