Cannabis factories discovered in Reading

Police believe the sites in Caversham and Shinfield are linked

Police in reading have discovered two cannabis factories at opposite ends of the town.

The first was discovered at around 12.40pm in Brookers Hill in Shinfield. Officers found between 800 and 1000 plants within the property that have since been seized.

The road had to be closed for a short time and electricity was lost to a number of houses in the local area whilst the electrics were made safe.

The second cannabis factory was found at around 2.15pm in Church Road in Caversham. A large quantity of plants were discovered and have since been seized as well as an air weapon.

Scene watches remain at these properties whilst officers investigate.

It is believed that these are linked.

A 34-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and possession of a firearm without a certificate. He remains in police custody.

A 40-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in making of an offer to supply another a controlled drug of class B – cannabis and producing a controlled drug of class B – cannabis. He remains in police custody.

DI Laura Corscadden, of CID based at Reading police station, said:

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation following the discovery of these two cannabis factories.

“As a result of these there are scene watches in place and local residents may see an increased police presence in the area over the next few days.

“If anyone has any information about drug crime in their area then I would urge them to report it to police by making a report online or calling 101.
