Fatal collision in Royal Berkshire hospital car park

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was hit by a car and died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

A grey Mitsubishi Outlander hit a pedestrian in the hospital's multi-storey car park at around 4.45pm on Wednesday the 13th.

The pedestrian, a 58-year-old man, sadly died at the scene. The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The car park was shut as part of the investigation but has since reopened.

Dash-cameras

Senior investigating officer Detective Sergeant Tony Jenkins, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“Tragically, a man has died following this collision and our thoughts are with his loved ones.

“I would ask for anyone who saw the collision to contact us.

“I would also ask any drivers with a dash-camera who were driving in the car park at the time to check their recordings and let us know if they have captured anything that could help our investigation.

Four fire appliances attended the scene before police arrived to conduct an investigation.

A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue said:

"At 4.17pm we received reports of an incident in the car park of Royal Berkshire Hospital in Craven Road, Reading.

"Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wokingham Road, Whitley Wood, Theale and the Heavy Rescue Unit from Theale were sent to the scene."

The hospital remained open throughout.
