West Berkshire Council is now accepting applications for a new grant scheme to support businesses in hospitality, leisure and accommodation that have been impacted by Omicron.

The scheme will provide a one-off grant payment based on the rateable value of the premises a business occupies.

The application process opened on 5 January as soon as Government guidance was released.

In order to be eligible you must be a business rate-payer in the hospitality, leisure or accommodation industries, have been affected by Omicron, and must have been trading on 30 December 2021.

For businesses that may have been affected by Omicron who do not qualify for this grant, the council have the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Hardship scheme in place. Any business may apply for one-off grant support through this scheme if they can demonstrate that they are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the pandemic.

Councillor Ross Mackinnon, West Berkshire’s Executive Member for Finance and Economic Development commented:

"This further support for businesses is very welcome, we are keen to distribute these grants to support our businesses as soon as possible.

“This is a one off grant and we’re encouraging businesses to apply quickly so that they can benefit.”

Applications must be made by 28 Feb 2022. All payments will be made to businesses by the 31 March.
