Berkshire M4 closures revealed

National Highways have announced details of work which will affect the Reading section of the motorway

Drivers are being informed of several upcoming overnight closures on the M4 between junction 11 Reading and 12 Theale taking place in Berkshire this Spring and Summer.

The first part of the works is planned to start on 22 April 2024 requiring 2 planned full weekend closures along with 5-full overnight closures.

These works will be taking place on both the M4 Eastbound and Westbound carriageways between junction 11 and 12 and will allow repairs at Burghfield Road bridge including replacing the existing paint system and refurbishing the bridge bearings, to ensure it remains in a safe condition.

The completion of this entire work is planned for late July.

These closures are currently programmed for:

April

22nd – 26th April – Westbound overnight full closures

27th - 29th April – Westbound full weekend closure (from 9pm Sat – 6am Mon)

29th – 30th April - Westbound overnight full closures

May

1st – 16th May - Westbound overnight full closures

17th – 20th May - Westbound full weekend closure (from 9pm Fri – 6am Mon)

20th – 23rd May - Westbound overnight full closures

28th – 31st May - Westbound overnight full closures

Diversions

Drivers should follow the diversion route signed and allow extra time during their journeys:

Westbound: signed diversions will be in place via M4 J11, onto A33, A4 and back on the M4 via J12

Eastbound: signed diversions will be in place via M4 J12, onto A4, A33 and back on the M4 via J11
