Regional theatres and organisations receive government arts funding

Regional theatres, arts organisations and museums are amongst those to receive a share of 257 million pounds worth of government arts funding.

Nearly a million pounds has been awarded to Reading Borough Council for their arts and venues, and three quarters of a million has gone to the Hampshire cultural trust and Hampshire music services which promote and run the arts in the county.

The Anvil theatre in Basingstoke, South Hill Park in Bracknell & the Newbury Corn Exchange have all received awards of around a quarter of a million pounds each.

The Reading based Museum of English rural life has received £74,000, while Whitchurch silk mill in North Hampshire has been awarded £131,000.

Readipop a music education charity has been awarded £95,000, while Reading's newest theatre - the Reading Rep has received £169,000 to help it employ staff ahead of its planned opening next year.
