University shows of its community credentials
Residents invited to an off-campus community forum
The University of Reading is hosting an Autumn Community Forum on Tuesday evening, giving local residents the opportunity to share their views and find out more about the University’s activity within the town.
Professor Robert Van de Noort, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, will host the evening event, which will take place at The Pavilion on the Oxford Road, Reading.
The decision to hold the event off-campus was made following feedback from previous Community Forums.
Molli Cleaver, Community Engagement Manager at the University of Reading, said:
“The Community Forum is a great opportunity for local residents to hear directly from the University and Reading Students’ Union about our current and future planned activity within the community.
“It also provides residents with the chance to share feedback on our work and raise any issues they think need addressing. By hosting these events we can create better connections between the University and the town, and work through any challenges in a more collaborative way.
“We are excited to be hosting the upcoming Community Forum in Reading town centre and hope to see lots of new faces join us for this evening event.”
Event details
The doors will open from 6pm, where food and refreshments will be served.
Professor Van de Noort will officially start the Community Forum at 6.30pm, followed by:
an update on how the University has responded to feedback from the Spring Community Forum;
an introduction from the Friends of the University;
a group discussion on community-led research;
and an update from Reading Students’ Union.
The last part of the event will give people the opportunity to join break-out groups discussing different elements of the University’s community activity. These will include:
Environmental sustainability and climate change
Student, staff & alumni volunteering
University of Sanctuary
The Community Forum will end with closing remarks from Professor Van de Noort, and be finished by 8.30pm.
This event is free and open to anyone in the local community. Registration is essential and tickets can be booked online.
