Record numbers of undergraduates have been offered a place to study at the University of Reading in 2023.

With 1700 more calls and over 100 more offers made during Clearing week than in 2022, the University of Reading has proven a popular choice for students looking for a place to study through Clearing, following strong UCAS application figures.

More than 5,037 new students have accepted places to begin undergraduate studies in September, which exceeds the previous record number of 5,026 acceptances at this stage last year. The number of students who go on to enrol will be lower than this, however, as is the case every year.

These additional numbers are likely to come alongside fewer applications for postgraduate taught courses nationally this year.

Even before this year’s Clearing activity, Reading had already received 11% more applications for undergraduate courses this year and saw an increase of 12% in firm acceptances.

The most popular subject areas receiving Clearing offers have been: Politics, Economics and International Relations; Law; programmes run by Henley Business School; Biological Sciences; and Computer Sciences.

James Ackroyd, Director of Global Recruitment & Admissions, University of Reading, said:

“2023 has been another strong year for Reading’s undergraduate programmes. It’s a great place to study and we are in high demand among school leavers.

“This has been our best market share of UCAS applicants in at least a decade, and has been followed by a very successful Clearing process, so far.”

Many courses are now completely full, but there are still a few places available in certain subjects. Information and applications can still be made through Clearing, with dedicated phone lines open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, on 0118 402 0900.
