As three-way traffic lights look set to cause more delays on the A68 in the Borders today (Tuesday, April 24th), motorists in the region are being warned to brace themselves for more disruption ahead.

As well as the works ongoing at the Ravenswood roundabout - where the cross-border route meets the Melrose bypass, just north of Newtown St Boswells - BEAR Scotland has announced nine nights of road closures on the A7, starting next week.

Two kilometres of the trunk road are being resurfaced between Hawick and Canonbie - with traffic being diverted via the A6088, B6357 and B7201 between 7.30pm and 6am each night.

The first phase of work will take place between Braehead and Linhope from Tuesday, May 2nd, to Friday, May 5th; and then the second phase will follow at Branxholm from Monday, May 15th to Friday, May 19th.

The diversions will add around 7.7 miles, or 20 minutes, to affected journeys. But emergency services will be allowed access at all times

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network manager, said: “It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
