First picture released of woman killed in crash on A7 near Ashkirk

A woman who died in a crash in the Scottish Borders last week has been named by police.

Yvonne Nichol was driving a Vauxhall Astra on the A7 between Selkirk and Hawick when it was involved in a collision with two other vehicles near Ashkirk.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised around 3.45pm on Tuesday, August 15th, and the 64-year-old from Hawick was taken to Borders General Hospital but later died.

A 65-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. His condition is not known.

Meanwhile, a 71-year-old woman, who was driving a Nissan Juke, was airlifted to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where her condition was described as "critical but stable".

A 30-year-old man, who was driving a Ford Ranger, escaped with minor injuries and, according to police, did not require hospital treatment.

He has since been arrested in connection with road traffic offences and released pending further enquiries.
