Thrill-seekers brave huge waves for traditional Boxing Day dip in Berwick

Scores of thrill-seekers converged on the coast for the annual Boxing Day dip at Berwick.

And many more lined the promenade at Spittal Beach to cheer them on.

While some were raising money for charity, others were just looking to blow off some festive cobwebs.

This year's event is believed to be one of the biggest and best yet - but the huge waves meant the run-up to the North Sea was shorter than usual.

Event stalwart Andrew Smith piped the hardy souls into the water.

He said: "It's a great opportunity to let everybody dust off the Christmas Day festivities, and it's a great way of people getting together and raising money for local charities."
