Five tips to keep your bike safe

Meanwhile, police have issued some crime prevention advice...

  1. Always use two good quality locks - at least one of which is a D-lock, to secure your bike even when stored inside a garage.
  1. As a ‘rule of thumb’ look to spend at least 10% of the value of the bike on security.
  1. Secure your bike to the fabric of the garage or shed using a ground anchor and heavy chain and ALWAYS lock the door.
  1. Photograph your bike and record all of your bike’s details and distinguishing features and keep in a safe place. The serial number can be found on the bottom bracket.
  1. Consider using a bike registration scheme such as ‘Bike Register’ to mark your bicycle. Not only is this a deterrent to thieves but should you be unlucky enough to have your bicycle stolen it increases the chances of getting your bicycle back.
