There are few better views of the Braw Lads’ Gathering, than when the Braw Lad gallops - flag in hand - over Gala Hill.

Saturday’s ceremonial ride was the culmination of a week-long programme of events to celebrate the town's history.

And hundreds of well-wishers lined the streets to show their support.

There were poignant moments too among the annual festivities - the Mixing of the Roses ceremony at the Old Town Cross being another highlight.

And Galashiels fell silent to remember all those it's lost - not just in the two World Wars, and all the conflicts since; but those friends and neighbours no longer with us following an enforced break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Principals led a cavalcade of horses on a ceremonial ride round the town.

It was mostly a day of celebration, however. A chance to greet old friends, and make new ones too. And the umbrellas brought out to guard against the rain only added to the colour of the occasion.
