Firefighters battle overnight to contain farm shed blaze
It was a busy weekend for our region's firefighters.
Duns Fire Station revealed its crews were called out SEVEN times in just two days.
The biggest blaze was reported near Grantshouse, where a farm shed was found alight on Saturday night.
Around a dozen crews attended, from both sides of the border, after the alarm was raised around 7.30pm.
Appliances from Coldstream, Berwick and Dunbar were supported by an aerial ladder platform from Edinburgh.
And they battled through the night to bring the fire under control - stopping it spreading to other buildings or vehicles - before the scene was made safe late yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.
Meanwhile, around 10.35pm on Saturday night, as Berwick's Blue Watch helped firefighters north of the border, the town's retained crew were called out to a blaze in the Shoreswood area of Northumberland, where around 50 hay bales were found alight.
They were supported by a team from Seahouses fire station, and the bales were left to burn out under the supervision of the land owner, with the crew returning to their station around 1am.
A spokesperson for Duns Community Fire Station said: "Our on-call crews cannot provide this service without the understanding and support of their spouses, partners, familes and bosses allowing them to drop work, family events or shopping trips at the drop of a hat.
