Man caught with 'dealer' amounts of cannabis after National Crime Agency 'surround' home in Borders

A 34-year-old man from the Borders has been found guilty of being in possession of more than £2,000 worth of cannabis with intent to supply following a trial at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
National Crime Agency officers seized around 11-and-a-half ounces of the Class B drug, and £295 in cash, from Scott Murray's car during a raid on his home, at Castle Mains Farm, in Duns on September the 23rd, 2022.
The court heard they had "surrounded" the property after being granted a warrant relating to "an ongoing firearms enquiry".
A red bag found in the boot of the black BMW contained 14 separate packages made up of 10 one-ounce "deals"; two half-ounce deals; and two quarter-ounce deals.
Murray - who represented himself in court - had denied any knowledge of the drugs, but was convicted following a trial on Thursday (April 18th).

The court heard he has a previous conviction for possession of diazepam in Stornoway in 2007, in addition to convictions for assault and robbery; and was also given a two-year jail sentence after being found guilty of a firearms offence in the Western Isles town in 2019.
Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence for background reports, including a restriction of liberty order report. The case will recall at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on May 20th.
