An 87-year-old man has died following a collision on the A1 in East Lothian.

John Paul, from Duns, was behind the wheel of a silver Nissan Pixo when it was involved in a collision with a silver Volkswagen Passat, shortly after 3pm on Sunday.

Emergency services raced to the scene - between Dunbar and Cockburnspath - after the alarm was raised, and the pensioner was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

But police have today (Tuesday) confirmed he died this morning.

Officers, who closed the cross-border route for around four hours while they examined the scene, are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1810 of October 15th, 2023.
