Man dies after being ‘crushed by tree’ in the Borders

A 50-year-old man has died after being crushed by a tree in the Scottish Borders, emergency officials said.
He's been named locally as Kevin Williams, a tree surgeon from Kelso.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident in woodland near Blackhouse Farm, Berwickshire, at about 8.40am on Monday.
They assisted the police and ambulance services but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they're not treating the man's death as suspicious.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of the death of a 50-year-old man at a farm in Eyemouth around 8.45am on Monday, 29 April, 2024.
“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident in woodland near Blackhouse Farm, Eyemouth, at about 8.40am on Monday.
“They assisted the police and ambulance services but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Friends left flowers near the scene of the tragedy, by Blackhouse Wind Turbine - around five miles north of Duns - this afternoon.
One told us: "He was a really nice guy, wouldn't harm a fly; he was a good dad. It's tragic. His mum and dad are roughly the same age as me, and they'll be devastated."
Another, paying tribute online, added: "So, so sad; known him since I was born! Life is so cruel."
A number of warning signs line the road warning of timber works in operation.
The Health and Safety Executive, which investigates accidents in the workplace, has confirmed it's aware of the incident.
A HSE spokesperson said: "We are aware of this incident and supporting Police Scotland with its enquiries."
