WATCH: Farne Islands reopen - two years after bird flu enforced closure

One of Northumberland's biggest tourist attractions is set to welcome its first visitors in two years.

Landings were stopped on the Farne Islands after an outbreak of avian flu killed thousands of birds.

The nature reserve is an internationally-important habitat for 23 species - including puffins, guillemots and Arctic terns.

Speaking from Seahouses Harbour, county councillor Guy Renner Thompson told Greatest Hits Radio: "This is a huge day for Seahouses and the surrounding area.

"A lot of local businesses - like the bed and breakfasts - have been really worried about people not being able to come and land on the islands, so this is a big boost coming into the tourist season."
