A 30-year-old man has admitted assaulting another man in Galashiels to his severe injury.

Jed Crerar struck his victim on the head in the town's Green Street on March the 18th last year - causing him to fall to the ground.

He was originally charged with striking the man to his permanent impairment and danger of life, but the Crown today (Tuesday) accepted a plea to the lesser charge.

Sentence has been deferred at Selkirk Sheriff Court for background reports - including a restriction of liberty order - until May 14th.

And Crerar was released on bail to an address in the Balmoral area of Galashiels meantime.
