Man remanded in custody in connection with £150,000 cannabis farm unearthed in Galashiels

A 37-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with the discovery of a cannabis farm in the centre of Galashiels.

Plants with an estimated street value of £150,000 were seized following a raid on the former Why Not? store in Channel Street yesterday (Thursday).

Erson Shurdha, of No Fixed Abode, has been charged with being concerned in the production and supply of a controlled drug.

He also faces a third charge of breaching the Electricity Act.

Shurdha made no plea when he appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Friday).

He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He's due to appear in court again within the next eight days.
