A 36-year-old man who threatened to set a local pub on fire has avoided a prison sentence.

Rory Morrison had been drinking in the Woodcutter in Langlee on March the 16th when he was asked to leave because of his behaviour.

Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Monday) heard he grabbed a barmaid by the arm and became aggressive towards other customers - running his finger along his throat.

His solicitor, Ross Dow, said they were "empty threats".

Morrison pled guilty to charges of assault, threatening behaviour and breaching a non-harrassment order.

Sheriff Peter Paterson gave him a nine-month home curfew - which means he must stay within his address between the hours of 7pm and 7am.

He's also been ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

Unpaid work

A 26-year-old man caught with cocaine valued at £880 after police pulled over his car in Galashiels, has been given a six-month home curfew and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

Jake Mulroy previously admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug in the town's Ladhope Vale on April the 7th last year.

Selkirk Sheriff Court heard police found more than 90 grams in 22 bags during a search of his black Audi.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said the sentence is a direct alternative to custody.

Compensation

A 26-year-old woman who spat on three police officers and kicked two of them after striking a glass door at Glentress has been given an eight-month home curfew and ordered to pay £500 compensation.

Beth Burns admitted the assaults, which took place on the A72, at Borders General Hospital and Hawick Police Station on April the 30th last year.

She's been sentenced at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
