Organisers of a fun run held in memory of a Galashiels school boy have announced Scotland rugby Head Coach Gregor Townsend will be making a special guest appearance this year.

The annual event - organised by the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust - is being held at the town's Cricket Club, at Meigle Park (TD1 1NE), on Sunday, June 11th.

And locals are being encouraged to give it a try.

As well as a junior fun run, there is also a 5k walk and fun run.

Registration opens at 10.30am for entry on the day, but advanced entry is also available online for the Meigle Fun Run.

Families, walkers and dog walkers are encouraged to participate, with the medals handed out by this year's Braw Lad and Lass.

The junior fun run sets off at 11.30am, with the Meigle fun walk/run following at midday.

The Trust was set up in memory of school boy Rowan Boland who died while playing cricket near his home in Galashiels in 2010 - aged just nine.

Its main goal is to help other youngsters showing potential to compete at school, club, regional, national or international level, go on to achieve their sporting goals.

"Gregor will be there to facilitate some touch rugby games for the kids as well as mingle with all of those there on the day! There will be plenty photo opportunities too📸

"As well as touch rugby we’ll have beat the goalie, kwik cricket, bouncy castle, BBQ and cake and candy to ensure it’s a great fun-filled day out for all the family👨‍👩‍👧‍👦"
