A 47-year-old man's appeared in court in connection with a disturbance, which resulted in a bomb disposal team being called out by police in the Borders.

Emergency services swooped on a property in the vicinity of the Mosspaul Inn - currently closed for renovations - after officers responding to an incident late on Tuesday discovered suspicious materials inside.

The road between Hawick and Langholm was closed for several hours the following day as a precaution, and to allow an investigation to take place.

Edward Barker, from Hawick, faced two charges of threatening or abusive behaviour when he appeared on petition at Jedburgh Sheriff Court this afternoon (Thursday).

He made no plea during the private hearing. He was committed for further examination and released on bail.

Police Scotland said enquiries were ongoing.
