Hawick heroin dealer avoids jail

A 26-year-old man caught with more than £7,000 worth of heroin at his home in Hawick has been given a ten-month home curfew and ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.
Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard Corey Gold began dealing the Class A drug to pay off a cannabis debt.
Police seized six wraps of brown powder, of varying weights, and contaminated scales when they raided his address in Galalaw Road on June the 30th last year.
Gold's solicitor, Ross Dow, explained his client had used cannabis since a young age and it helped with his ADHD.
Sheriff Peter Paterson pointed out how "poisonous" heroin can be, and the deaths it causes.
He accepted it was a "one-off" incident but warned any repeat would likely attract a custodial sentence.

Gold previously admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin at his home in Hawick and returned to court for sentence today (Thursday).
The total amount seized was measured at 199 grams and had a street value of £7,380.
The home curfew - which was given as a direct alternative to custody - means Gold must stay within his address between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
