A 34-year-old man has admitted exposing his private parts and performing a sex act on himself in the centre of Hawick.

Jamie Beattie, of Gladstone Street, was in a car in the town's High Street around 5.25pm on August the 11th last year when he was spotted by a member of the public.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court today (Monday) heard the passer-by took pictures of the incident and alerted police.

Sentence has been deferred on Beattie - who pled guilty to a charge of public indecency - until next month for background reports.

Fire threat

A 36-year-old man from the Borders who threatened to set fire to his bed while his ex was in it - unless she returned it, following a break-up - has been fined a total of £320.

Austin Dodsworth admitted sending the menacing WhatsApp message to the woman at an address in Kelso last month, when he appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

His solicitor, Ross Dow, says the threat was "entirely idle".

Offensive weapon

A 50-year-old man caught with a metal bar at the Royal British Legion in Kelso on February 3rd has been given a six-month home curfew.

Paul Brockbank pled guilty to a charge of being in possession of an offensive weapon at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

He must stay at his home in Albert Place, Kelso, between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
