A 29-year-old man from Hawick who messaged two women from a Snapchat account created in another man's name before "propositioning" them for sex has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 18 months.

Darren Henderson previously pled guilty to communicating indecently with one woman in December 2021, and sending sexual messages to another in April 2022.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard the women only accepted his friend's request after believing him to be someone else, and then blocked him after the chat "quickly turned sexual".

Henderson's solicitor, Ross Dow, explained the unemployed electrical engineer had been suffering depression following a relationship break-up, but pointed out no images were exchanged.

When he returned for sentence today (Monday), Henderson, of Teviot Road, Hawick, was also given a Community Payback Order, with a supervision requirement, which he must comply with for the next 18 months.
