It may have eased off for now but recent rain is continuing to cause disruption across our region this morning (Thursday).

England's most northerly narrow gauge steam railway is closed due to flooding, after the River Till burst its banks.

An inspection of the track at Heatherslaw light railway - in Northumberland - is planned for tomorrow to decide whether trains can run on Saturday.

Elsewhere, a further inspection is planned at Kelso racecourse at 8am on Friday to decide whether Saturday’s meet can go ahead.

The Borders track has been left heavily waterlogged in places after 22mm of rain fell yesterday, with more forecast overnight.

And motorists are being urged to take extra care on the region's roads.

The A1 was partially blocked last night due to flooding around Thirstly Cross Roundabout.

Train services are also being delayed on the East Coast Main Line southbound between Berwick and Alnmouth due to emergency engineering works.

A Kelso Community Council spokesperson said: "The rain is to continue overnight and more rain to come over the coming several days, which will fall on already saturated ground.

"Please drive to the conditions as there is a lot of surface water and in some areas roads can be down to one lane - drive safely, as you never know what its like round that corner."

The funfair in Peebles has also been relocated from Victoria Park to Kingsmeadows car park due to concerns over the weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued a yellow - be prepared - weather warning for wind, covering large parts of the Borders on Saturday, between 8am and 10pm.

Winds of up to 70mph are forecast, with only areas east of Coldstream/Chirnside/Cockburnspath not covered by the warning.
