Nominations have opened for candidates wishing to represent Jedburgh and District on Scottish Borders Council.

A seat in the three-member ward became vacant following the resignation of the SNP's Pam Ward (pictured) on health grounds.

She was elected onto the Conservative-led authority in May 2022, alongside two Tory councillors - Scott Hamilton and Sandy Scott.

But details of her decision to quit emerged in papers being presented to November's council meeting, with November the 23rd being her last official day in post.

A by-election is due to take place on February the 22nd, with an electronic count of votes cast to take place from 10am the following morning.

And anyone wishing to stand has until 4pm on Monday, January 22nd, to put their names forward.

Polling stations will be set-up at St Boswells Village Hall (2 stations), Maxton Village Hall, Roxburgh Village Hall, Heiton Village Hall, Ancrum Village Hall, Lothian Hall, Crailing, Eckford Village Hall, Lanton Village Hall, Town Hall, Jedburgh (4 stations), Oxnam Village Hall and Edgerston Village Hall.

They will be open between 7am and 10pm, and all eligible electors aged 16 or over can vote.

One candidate will be elected using the single transferable vote system.

A Scottish Borders Council spokesperson said: "The Electoral Registration Officer will be issuing a communication to each household setting out the names of those eligible electors currently shown on the register of electors.

"If you’re not on the register of electors you can’t vote - make sure you are registered by midnight on Tuesday, February 6th. Visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote to register online.

"To vote by post you need to apply by 5pm on Wednesday, February 7th.

"More information on registering to vote and postal and proxy applications can be found at www.scotborders.gov.uk/elections."
