It was one of the biggest sporting events in the Borders before Covid struck.

But it was curtailed last year due to a lack of entries.

Now the local Callants Club is taking over the organisation of Jedburgh Running Festival to ensure this year's event goes ahead.

Entries for the 10k and half marathon events have now opened - and competitors are being encouraged to get in early.

The joint race start will take place outside the abbey at 11am on Sunday, October 29th; with registration in the town hall from 8.30am.

Runners set-off against the back-drop of Jedburgh Abbey.

Details of the wheelchair and handbike race have yet to be confirmed, but normally sets-off from Bonjedward at 10am.

And the 38-mile ultra marathon - which follows a course to the Eildon Hills, near Melrose, and back - is expected to open for entries, later this summer.

It will be held, along with the canicross races, on Saturday, October 28th.

Sammi Kinghorn was first female over the line in the Jed Renilson wheelchair race last year.

2013 Jethart Callant Garry Ramsay told Greatest Hits Radio: "This has not been ran since 2019 due to Covid. And then we were looking to get back up and running last year, but there were a lack of entries so unfortunately the 10k and half marathon events were cancelled.

"At one point we had up to 1,000 runners so it's been a big miss to the town."
