The Pavilion Cinema in Galashiels is showing one of Scotland’s best-loved comedy-dramas tonight to celebrate 40 years since its release.

The screening of Local Hero will be followed by a live Q&A with the film's star Peter Riegert over Zoom.

More than a hundred people have already booked their seat.

Cinema manager Andrew Poole: "Although when released the film didn’t enjoy the glitz and glamour of Bill Forsyth’s previous movie; Gregory’s Girl, nor was it a huge box office success for Warner Bros, but over the years it has picked up a huge community following and remains to this day my favourite film of all time.

"I’m unbelievably excited to re-run the film on the big screen and to have the opportunity to chat with Peter about the film-making process, and how he feels about the film after all this time."

The film tells the tale of a billion-dollar Texan oil behemoth’s plan to buy out an entire Scottish fishing village so they can build an oil refinery.

When Knox Oil and Gas dealmaker Mac arrives, he finds the villagers only too eager to sell up and become millionaires. There’s just one problem, and that’s Ben, a stubborn beachcomber who has set up his home on the beach and is refusing to budge.
