The Melrose Music Festival got underway last night (Friday) with a packed house for a Kings of Swing jazz evening.

A stellar line-up of top Scottish swinging jazz musicians drew from the likes of Louis Armstrong and Kenny Ball, with tunes like "Hello Dolly" and "What a Wonderful World” to get the audience tapping their feet.

Local photographer Phil Wilkinson sent us these stunning snaps from the Greenyards - home of Melrose Rugby Club.

The festival continues tonight (Saturday) with an historic first, as five Scottish Borders choirs combine their talents into one glorious Choral performance of Carmina Burana at the town's Corn Exchange.

Over the following weekends there will be a variety of events including more jazz, classical guitars, a children’s choral event featuring an American boys’ choir,  orchestral music and opera. The festival ends on Sunday, June 17th.
