A motorist who struck a cyclist at a roundabout near Borders General Hospital has admitted a charge of careless driving.

Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Monday) heard Iain McLeod, from Lauder, failed to spot the woman - who was knocked off her bike in the collision.

It happened shortly before 1pm, on Sunday, December the 4th, last year.

The 65-year-old from Lauder handed himself in to police after an appeal was launched to find the driver.

At the time, it was reported Audrey Power was approaching the junction near Melrose when a car "came flying out of nowhere" and crashed into her. She managed to drag herself onto the roundabout where she collapsed, but was helped by passerbys, who rushed to her aid and dialled 999.

The experienced cyclist said she felt "lucky to be alive" after feeling her head "bouncing off the road two or three times".

The business owner suffered a chipped bone in her arm, a large cut on her elbow, a head injury along with painful bruising and swelling on her left leg and hip.
