Thousands of rugby supporters are expected to converge on Melrose this weekend for the return of the town's annual rugby Sevens.

A special Hall of Fame dinner is being held at the Greenyards this evening (Thursday), with the main event on the pitch following on Saturday.

Among the teams to feature this year will be the first ever South of Scotland Barbarians side, coached by former Melrose and Scotland sevens star Scott Wight.

We caught up with tournament director Phil Morris at the Greenyards this week to find out more.

ScotRail has announced it will be running extra carriages on its trains between Edinburgh and Tweedbank to help fans travelling to the event.

It has also been able to add an additional service at 7.52pm on Saturday to help them get home.

David Ross, ScotRail Communications Director, said:  “Customers should plan ahead and check their journey before they leave the house as we’ve made some changes to train times to better support the event.

“We’re also asking fans to leave extra time for travel and to buy their return tickets for travel in advance.”
