Court hears man who set off firework outside Peebles pub sparked police response

A 30-year-old man who set off a firework outside a Peebles pub - sparking a police response - has been fined £325.
Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Tuesday) heard neighbours in the Old Town came out their homes after hearing a "loud bang" and seeing the smoke on March the 24th last year.
Jordan Carrick, who lives locally, pled guilty to a charge of breach of the peace after "causing members of the public fear and alarm".
The court heard he had been drinking in the pub before going outside for a cigarette with another, and discharged the firework around 7.45pm.

Police were alerted and arrested Carrick - who works in landscaping - after viewing the pub's CCTV.
After being quizzed by officers, he replied: "I was very stupid."
In addition to the fine, Carrick was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20.
