Peebles teenager sentenced for trio of attacks on men in town

A Peebles teenager who admitted a trio of assaults on men in the town over the last two years - including one which left his victim with a broken wrist - has avoided a custodial sentence due to his age.

Liam Moffat has instead been given a three-month home curfew and ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.

But a Sheriff has warned the 19-year-old that if he breaches his orders he could yet end up in custody.

Selkirk Sheriff Court previously heard Moffat, while acting with others, repeatedly struck a man on the head to his injury on a public footpath between Cuddyside and March Street on July the 7th last year.

However, allegations that he kicked the man and robbed him of a rucksack and its contents were deleted from the charge.

Moffat, of Victoria Park Drive, Peebles, also admitted - while acting with others - attacking a man in the town's Victoria Park, to his severe injury, on July the 4th the year before.

He had originally pled not guilty but the charge was amended to show he was not acting alone.

The teenager also repeatedly punched a man on the head in Peebles' High Street on May 6th last year.

The curfew means Moffat must stay at home between the hours of 9pm and 7am.
