Dog owners are being reminded to keep their pets on a lead near livestock.

It follows reports of another sheep-worrying incident in the Borders in recent days.

A pregnant ewe and its unborn lamb were killed in the attack, which happened close to a popular walking route between Linglie Hill and the Three Brethren.

Sharing a graphic picture of the sheep covered in blood (see below), local farmer Alister Hogarth said: "Yet another dog attack on route to Three Brethern, Linglie Hill. As this ewe was in-lamb that's two lives gone!

"It's not dogs that are the problem it's the owners... dog leads were invented for a reason."

It's the latest in a series of sheep-worrying incidents in the Borders over the past year.

In October, a number of the animals had their faces ripped open in an attack at Wester Ulston Farm, near Jedburgh. Five were injured and three had to be put down.

In May, nine pedigree lambs - aged between six and eight-weeks-old - were savaged during a suspected dog attack in fields near the town's Shell petrol station.

That was the third in the area in as many months, with two sheep killed at Over Thickside Farm, Jedburgh, in February, and 14 left for dead in a separate attack at Howden Farm in March.

Speaking at the time, local farm worker Robert Whittaker said: "All of these animals were unbelievably still alive when found. But due to the extensive damage we had no option but to euthanize every one."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
