The Proclaimers have announced plans to return to the Borders next summer.

Craig and Charlie Reid will perform in a 6000-capacity circus tent at the Border Union showground in Kelso on Saturday, June the 10th.

And tickets for the gig go on sale at 9am this Friday.

The Edinburgh brothers, best known for hits like I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) and Sunshine on Leith, last performed in the region in Melrose in 2019.

And they were last in Kelso at the Tait Hall in 2015, and playing in Galashiels before that.

In a statement, Craig and Charlie, who will also perform at Edinburgh's Leith Links and Glasgow's Queens Park later that month, said: “We are looking forward to playing the tented shows next summer.

"These shows always have a great atmosphere and will be extra special because of the fantastic support acts.

"We’re honoured to be playing Leith Links for the first time and hope the fans and local residents will enjoy the occasion.”

The Kelso show follows the success of the huge concerts staged on the opposite bank of the River Tweed last summer, when Bryan Adams, Michael Buble and Tears For Fears pulled in the crowds to Floors Castle. Alison Moyet and Feeder were also included on the bill.

Supporting artists this time around include Admiral Fallow, Hamish Hawk and Alas de Liona.

Mark Mackie, director, Regular Music said: “We are delighted to announce the summer 2023 shows for The Proclaimers and a big first for Leith too. Together with shows at Kelso Showground and Glasgow’s Queens Park, these are surely going to be the shows of the summer.”

Local traders are welcoming the announcement.

Kelso Provost Gavin Horsburgh says last summer's concerts with Bryan Adams and Michael Buble helped put the area on the map:

"It's very exciting to hear," he said, "with the positive impact this has on our local accommodation providers and restaurants.

"Kelso has an incredible backdrop on the banks of the Tweed; the last gigs were very well supported by our locals, and I look forward to more musicians and bands arriving in the future."
