Emergency crews are being praised for their quick response following a fire above a fish market in the Tweedmouth area of Berwick.

According to the local fire station, the Blue Watch team arrived outside the Berwick Shellfish Company's premises in Dock Road less than four minutes after the alarm was raised on Monday.

They were supported by teams from Belford and Seahouses, as well as the Aerial Ladder Platform, which was brought from Pegswood fire station - almost 50 miles away.

Together, they were able to stop the fire from spreading, prevent serious damage to the building, and allow the business below to return to work later that day.

A spokesperson for Berwick Community Fire Station said: "At 12:51 on Monday afternoon, Blue Watch were turned out to reports of a building fire in Tweedmouth.

"Arriving less than 4 mins after the initial 999 call, the crew found a developing fire on the first floor above a commercial premises.

"The incident commander quickly deployed two firefighters in breathing apparatus (BA) to gain entry and tackle the fire before it could spread any further.

"On their arrival, additional BA teams and the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) were also deployed to check for any fire spread to the rest of the building.

"Thanks to the quick response of the crew, the assistance of our colleagues from Belford and Seahouses Fire Stations and the rapid deployment of the ALP from Pegswood Fire Station, crews were able to stop the fire spreading, preventing serious damage to the building and allowing the business below to safely return to work after only a few hours."
