90-year-old Wakefield man dies in hospital after being hit by car in city centre

An elderly man who was hit by a car in the city centre of Wakefield earlier this month has died in hospital.

90-year-old Colin Benn passed away on Sunday morning, following the incident on Cliff Parade on the 15 December.

West Yorkshire Police have released the following statement:

"Police are issuing a new appeal for information after an elderly man who was seriously injured in a road traffic collision passed away in hospital."

"Colin Benn, who was 90 and from Wakefield, died on Sunday, 27 December following the collision in Cliff Parade, which happened at just after 1pm on 15 December.

"Mr Benn was in collision with a white Lexus IS 300h car, near to the junction with Wood Street.

"The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old local man, has been spoken to by police.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, or what happened leading up to it, is asked to call the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101 or through the West Yorkshire Police website, quoting log 722 of 15/12.

"Officers would also like to hear from anyone with dash cam or mobile phone footage which may assist in the investigation. "
