200 pupils at a school in Weston-super-Mare are having to self-isolate, after four staff members contracted COVID-19.

Bournville Primary has confirmed 30 employees are also quarantining at home, in addition to those who tested positive.

School bosses - who have called the decision "precautionary" - say they are working with Public Health England and North Somerset Council to keep students and staff safe.

The site has undergone a deep clean, but is currently open to pupils who aren't self-isolating.

'We have taken all the necessary precautions'

Marie Berry, Headteacher at Bournville Primary School, said: "In line with government guidelines we have taken all the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.

"We are confident that we have tracked all those who have been in contact with the positive cases and have followed all recommendations from Public Health England.

"We thank the whole community of Bournville for their ongoing support doing this difficult time".

North Somerset Council is now urging residents to wear a face mask when needed, follow social distancing guidelines and book a test if they display any Coronavirus symptoms.
