Plans for a £2 levy for overnight stays in some accommodation in Cambridge could move a step closer with a City Council meeting later.

The scheme could bring in £1.5 million per year, which the Cambridgeshire BID (Business Improvement District) say could be reinvested into the local tourism industry.

The levy would cover the greater Cambridge area, with it covering accommodation including hotels.

A vote will take place later, with local business owners involved.

Cambridge BID revealed that only 10% of visitors stay in the city overnight, with the plan to target visitors who will stay for longer.

The meeting at The Guildhall on Market Square is scheduled for 17:30 today (Monday 25th March)
