The North East Charity Sports Challenge has once again proven to be a success with nearly £75,000 being granted back to eight local groups in need of funding.

The match funding competition was launched to support sports clubs operating in deprived areas by helping their fundraising go further and teaching them the importance of becoming self sufficient. Cash for Kids challenged the clubs to raise as much money as could over a one month period. When £2,000 was reached, the charity guaranteed to add an extra £1,000 to their fundraising and there were additional grants available for our top three fundraisers.

The eight groups that took part were Northern Hope Gymnastics, Calmer Football Club, District Youth ABC, Gateshead Team Gymnastics, Hellcats Cheerleading Team, North East Cheer Allstars, North East Gymnastics and South Tyneside Gymanstics Club.

The highest fundraiser was Northern Hope Gymnastics who raised an incredible £16,075! With their match funding and award for being top of the leader board, the group walked away with a grant of nearly £22,000.

The North East Charity Sports Challenge is not about kids having the latest football boots, tennis rackets or most up to date strips. The competition is about kids not being able to afford to take part in local sports. All applications were judged by a panel on how they aim to make a difference to disadvantaged children under 18 in their area. Well done to everyone involved!
