A letter has been sent to the government about the safety of Cornwall's A30.

North Cornwall MP Scott Mann has written to the Transport Secretary, following two recent fatal crashes.

A 59-year-old man died after a collision on the stretch between Victoria and Highgate Hill.

Just a few days later, a man and a woman lost their lives following a separate collision that closed the road at Zelah through the night.

Now Scott Mann has raised a series of concerns with Grant Shapps, including issues such as short slip lanes and sharp junctions.

Other concerns include access for emergency services due to a lack of a hard shoulder.

Speaking to us about the letter, Scott Mann said: "We've had incidents where the A30's been closed overnight and I think if we had the ability for some of our accident and emergency vehicles to access those incidents quicker, I think that would help.

"First of all getting people seen at the accident but also clearing it as quickly as possible".

Mr Mann has recently met with local and national officials, including police and Highways, and says everyone is keen to work together.

He added that while dualling certain stretches has helped to make the road more practical, there is more work to be done around safety.

Mr Mann said: "With the efficiency of the road comes an increase in speed. So I think if we could just make people aware, through signage, better lighting and clearer direction of the road structure - cambers and things like that - I think we can avoid some of the challenges we've seen over the last three or four weeks".
