Emergency services are at the scene of what is being described as an ongoing incident on a beach in Newquay.

Multiple police cars and fire and rescue vehicles have been pictured above Lusty Glaze.

Devon and Cornwall Police have since confirmed a man has suffered serious injuries after falling from cliffs and has been airlifted to hospital.

Coastguard crews were also been scrambled and the rescue helicopter was seen landing on the sand.

The incident began to unfold just before 11.30am on Monday (20th September), when locals reported hearing the helicopter overhead.

HM Coastguard has confirmed its teams were involved, saying: "Newquay and Padstow Coastguard Rescue Teams, alongside the search and rescue helicopter from Newquay, have been sent to assist Devon and Cornwall Police with an incident on a beach in Newquay".

Inrix Traffic and Travel says part of Manewas Way, the road above the beach, is closed.

"Manewas Way closed due to police incident at Arundel Way. Road remains closed since around 12:00 to assist".
