A family from north Cornwall is praising the "kindness of strangers" after a devastating fire.

Flames tore through the house in Rock on Bank Holiday Monday, destroying toys, clothes, keepsakes and recent birthday presents.

A Crowdfunder has been set up to help mum Heather and her four little girls - Milly (9), Dylan (7), Nell (5) and baby Penelope who is 8-months-old.

The girls' bedrooms were all on the first floor, which has been completely gutted.

As of Thursday morning (3rd June), the fundraising appeal had already raised over £6,500!

Heather's sister, Hazel Davies, told us the family has lost much more than bricks and mortar.

"All she's been left with is the clothes they were wearing that day".

"All their childhood memories, their pictures, their baby boxes of things that they've had since hospital - their baby premature clothes that were in there.

"All their blankets that Heather had made from their first year of baby clothes - they were all made into baby blankets for each of them that they've all had.

"All she's been left with is the clothes they were wearing that day".

"The whole top floor and the loft cavity is completely gone. You walk in the front door and you see the staircase but you can see the daylight. It's just completely gone".

Hazel set up the Crowdfunder thinking it would help her sister and nieces through the first few days, but says the response has been overwhelming.

"It's absolutely phenomenal the kindness of strangers.

"I set it up to start with just hoping to get her a little bit of help to get her through the first month, just to get the essentials that she needs or to pay her bills.

"This could easily see her through for the next three months at the moment".
