Family pays heartfelt tribute to 20-year-old from Newquay after fatal crash

The family of a young man who died after a serious crash in Newquay have paid a heartfelt tribute.

20-year-old Joe Ironmonger, who was from the town, lost his life after his motorbike and a car collided between Christmas and New Year.

Emergency services responded to reports of a collision on Pentire Road on the afternoon of Wednesday 29th December.

The crash happened at around 3.30pm and Devon and Cornwall Police are still appealing for witnesses.

Officers have shared a tribute from Joe's family, who have described him as having a gentle, kind and caring nature.

"Much loved by all your family and friends"

The family said: "Joe, you were tragically taken away from us at such a young age. Much loved by all your family and friends, you will be so sadly missed.

"You had such a gentle, kind and caring nature; we cannot imagine never hearing your voice or seeing your smiling face again.

"Our heartfelt thanks go out to all those that helped and supported on the day and for all the kind messages and offers of support we have received since".

The road was closed for over six hours while officers from the Roads Policing and Serious Collisions Investigation teams attended the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses, anyone with dashcam footage, or any form of CCTV within the area to contact police on 101 quoting log 539 29/12/21.
