Firefighters from across Cornwall battle industrial building blaze near Falmouth

Crews from Helston to Wadebridge rushed to the scene at Longdowns

Firefighters from across Cornwall have been battling a blaze at an industrial building near Falmouth.

Crews from the town, Helston and Tolvaddon rushed to Longdowns on Monday night.

They called in back-up, including the water carrier from Wadebridge and a welfare unit from St Dennis.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue have been using a hydrant on the A394 and drivers were asked to be patient.

No injuries have been reported, however teams are expected to remain at the scene damping down for some time.

Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Highways have also been called out to help manage the traffic.

In a statement, the service said: "The Fire Service is currently on scene at a fire involving an industrial building.

"On arrival the first appliances requested further assistance and another two appliances were mobilised along with a water carrier.

"Pumping appliances from Falmouth, Helston and Tolvaddon are in attendance, along with water carriers from Helston and Wadebridge and the welfare unit from St Dennis.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the fire".

By the early hours they said that good progress was being made and at 6am said: "Three appliances and two water carriers are remaining on scene damping down waste and turning over".

Shortly after 7am Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service added: "Two appliances and two water carriers are still on scene. They will remain on scene for some time damping down.

"Devon and Cornwall Police & Cornwall Highways have been requested to assist with traffic management on the A394, as crews use a hydrant to replenish their water tanks".

Smoke could still be seen at the scene on Tuesday morning, where crews remained damping down as of 10am.
